Three steps to a more productive business

My blog is centered around three areas: leadership, life and productivity.

Productivity doesn’t just extend to the workplace, but to the ways in which we motivate the troops and how we try to pack every minute of every day with new experiences and ideas.

In this post, I’m going to show you how these things can help to make your business a more productive one.

1. Happy staff, productive workforce

This is one of the most important lessons to learn in business. Leadership is not just about heading up management meetings and delegating tasks (and this certainly isn’t productive).

People expect far more from their leader; they want mutual respect, they want to be valued and they want to be rewarded for their efforts. According to a recent survey, 75% of people who resign don’t leave their jobs, they quit their bosses.

Keeping staff motivated is vital to their productivity, and there are several ways you can ensure this happens. First of all, is your working environment a stimulating one? Are there breakout areas where staff can get away from their screens? Are there engaging workstations? Your staff spends most of their time at work, and their productivity levels will drop if they’re unhappy with where they travel to every day.

Secondly, do you appreciate them? Just because you’re the boss doesn’t mean people will remain loyal to you if you don’t give them a reason to be. Do you give them recognition for their overtime when completing a major project for you, and do you take an interest in their career progression and development? Focusing on all of these aspects will improve their productivity, and help your business thrive as a result.

2. Engage with local charities

Be productive in life and it will have a knock-on effect in the business arena, whether it’s helping out at a local food bank, or giving talks to local schools about business. Reaching out to the local community will help to increase your standing within your town, as well as helping much needed causes.

Plus, you can help local charities to enhance the way that they co-ordinate their funding, helping them make connections with trusts within the business community. Mr Reuben Singh is an entrepreneur who set up a trust to work with charities that focus on child health and welfare, and there are many other examples of people who bring together they philanthropic activities.

3. Plan for the future

If you have a plan of where your company is going, it will drive you, motivate you, and help you become more productive. Create a strategy of where you want your business to go, and set up realistic goals each year that will help to get you there. Break these down into monthly targets, and incentivise staff to hit them. You’re motivating staff, increasing productivity and driving growth. So, what’s your excuse now?
